Keenan Cahill dead at age 27: The Youtube sensation was famous for his lip sync videos

Keenan Cahill has died at the age of 27, following complications from an open heart surgery. 

The YouTube sensation – famous for his lip sync videos with celebrities – passed away on Thursday afternoon in a Chicago hospital, after being taken off life support according to his manager, David Graham, as per TMZ. 

Keenan, who was diagnosed with Maroteaux–Lamy syndrome, shared two weeks ago that he was undergoing open heart surgery on December 15. 

The internet phenomenon worked with a number of A-list stars throughout his career, and in 2011 he appeared alongside Jennifer Aniston in a Smart Water advert.

‘For those who are asking. December 15th is the date of surgery,’ he wrote on what is his last Instagram post on December 12. 

On December 5th he also shared a post that read: ‘One week till open heart surgery. Wish me luck. Love ya’ll.’ 

Maroteaux-Lamy syndrome is a ‘progressive condition that causes many tissues and organs to enlarge, become inflamed or scarred, and eventually waste away’ according to MedlinePlus.

Born in Elmhurst, Illinois, Keenan rose to fame in 2010 with his entertaining clips, which drew the attention of celebrities including Jennifer Aniston, Katy Perry, 50 Cent, Nick Cannon, Justin Bieber and more, who appeared on his channel to do duets. 

Aside from his YouTube career, Keenan was also featured in Sara Barilles’ music video for Uncharted, along with Adam Levine, Sia, and Ryan Tedder.

Cahill also performed with American electronic dance music duo LMFAO onstage at the 2011 American Music Awards.

The young star met Katy Perry during her California Dreams Tour, and they performed her Teenage Dream together in a video.

Fans showed support to the star after the news broke, with many commenting their condolences under his last Instagram post.

‘You were such a huge part of my childhood ❤️ Rest In Peace,’ one wrote.

‘Core YouTube childhood memories from you. Fly free in the eternal sky,’ another one added.

Cahill was previously nominated for a Teen Choice Award for Choice Web Star and in September 2011, he was also nominated for Viral Web Star at the J-14 Awards. 

The internet star was diagnosed with Maroteaux–Lamy syndrome at the age of one.

He had previously received a bone marrow transplant in 1997 to slow down the progression of the disease, and had other surgeries that followed.
