Much has been made of Jennifer Lawrence’s changing relationship with clothes. Since reemerging into public consciousness after the arrival of her firstborn—and partnering with stylist Jamie Mizrahi—the actor’s wardrobe has taken on a more masculine dimension: all waistcoats and wide-cut trousers and languid knitwear. “There’s a clean, relaxed way to how she dresses,” as Mizrahi explained.
No longer is Lawrence the loveable ingénue who trips UP the stairs at the Oscars in frou-frou Dior gowns, she is a sophisticated gallerina who eats candied figs and collects Isamu Noguchi sculptures. At least, that is what she looks like, because she has started to wear asymmetrical dresses from The Row with hardwood Elsa Peretti necklaces and minimalist non-shoe ballet pumps worth $820.
Though classic and understated, there is often something just a little bit “off” about Lawrence’s outfits. It gives them humor and quirk, like these metal-capped, kitten heel slingbacks which she wore with an otherwise familiar ’90s dad uniform on a recent outing in New York City. Up top, she sported a blue oxford shirt worn unbuttoned over a tank top, with cuffed wide leg trousers, square sunglasses, and a Loewe puzzle tote bag. But her razor sharp shoes stood out against the casual backdrop. “She’s timeless and doesn’t take herself too seriously,” as Mizrahi said. “Her wardrobe is relatively straightforward and modern, and it isn’t driven by what’s fashionable.”
