The trailer, which also unveiled the title of the previously unnamed film, begins with glimpses of Indy’s many escapades around the world as a man attempts to persuade him to return to his life of adventure.

‘I miss the desert, I miss the sea, and I miss waking up every morning wondering what new adventure the day will bring to us,’ the man tells Indiana after approaching him at an airport.

But Indy has no interest returning to his old ways. ‘Those days have come and gone,’ he replies.

His friend seems unconvinced.  ‘Perhaps. Perhaps not,’ he responds.

Eventually, Indy is persuaded to pick up his fedora one more time.

‘I don’t believe in magic but there are few times in my life, I have seen things,’ Indy muses in a voice over. ‘Things I can’t explain. And I have come to believe it’s not so much what you believe, it’s how hard you believe it.’

Scenes show Indy galloping through a patriotic parade and subway track, and once again busting out his famed whip.

Indy manages to escape death once again as he ducks just as the men begin shooting in his direction.

Ford will first debut in the film as the Indy we all know from his days in Indiana Jones and the Raiders Of The Lost Ark and then quickly age forward to his current self in 1969, when the fifth film in the franchise is set.

Harrison, who hasn’t taken on the mantle of the Nazi-fighting archeologist since 2008’s Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, admitted of the de-aging process, ‘It’s a little spooky,’ to see his younger self, telling Empire Magazine, ‘I don’t think I even want to know how it works, but it works.’

The veteran action-star has given the technical process a thumbs up, revealing, ‘This is the first time I’ve seen it where I believe it.’

De-aging is a 3D effect technology used to make an actor look younger. To do so, post-production studios typically edit a digital image or apply computer-generated imagery (CGI) overlays or touch-ups to the necessary scenes, according to ReSpeecher.

The plot for the as-yet untitled project has not been completely revealed, but Empire reports it’s set in the middle of the space race between the US and former USSR.

Co-writer Jeff Butterworth explained, ‘The simple fact is that the moon-landing program was run by a bunch of ex-Nazis. How “ex” they are is the question. And it gets up Indy’s nose…’

‘He’s a man who would like to correct some of the mistakes of the past,’ explained the veteran villain.

‘There is something that could make the world a much better place to live in. He would love to get his hands on it. Indiana Jones wants to get his hands on it as well. And so, we have a story.’

Harrison, who still flies his own private airplane, describes the story as ‘full of adventure, full of laughs, full of real emotion. And it’s complex and it’s sneaky.’

The opportunity to step back into Indy’s world was exciting for the actor, who wasn’t ready to say goodbye to his famous alter-ego. ‘I just thought it would be nice to see one where Indiana Jones was at the end of his journey. If a script came along that I felt gave me a way to extend the character.’

But getting back into action mode nearly 40 years after making the original was not easy. ‘The shooting of it was tough and long and arduous,’ the action hero admitted. ‘But I’m very happy with the film that we have.’

Indiana Jones 5 is expected to debut in theaters June 30, 2023.
