Antigua’s Hotspots

Nelsons Dockyard National Park and the old sugar mills are now major attractions for visits by tourists to the island on their Caribbean holiday, and also by cruise ship passengers.

Antigua has an active nightlife sure to keep the whole family entertained.  Shirley Heights is the hotspot where it is said that well-known celebrities can sometimes be seen mingling with tourists, all enjoying their Caribbean holiday helped by liberal measures of Antigua's Cavalier Rum.  The evenings here kick off with an all-welcome barbecue and continue on with drinking and dancing to live local music entertainment. Runaway Beach is like a mini resort beach where they have a bar/food, massages, horse back riding, wave runners, snorkelling, and a day of relaxation. Jumby Bay is a small island just a short boat ride off the Atlantic Coast. It boasts beautifully white sand, and crystal clear water visible to depths of over 12 feet.  Because the entire island is privately owned, it offers tourists a surprising amount of isolation, but also boasts a hefty fee.

Devils Bridge is a worthwhile visit in Antigua. Located in the Southeast side of the island, surrounded by both the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea, In fact it can easily be seen where both meet. The rough Atlantic Ocean battering against the shoreline has created Devils Bridge.

Fig Tree Drive is a scenic road that winds through the middle of the island. One of the few places to see Antigua in all of its former tropical-forest greenery, the road also takes you around some of the few “mountains” in an otherwise flat plane.   Just a note, the fig trees for which the drive is named are actually bananas, a misnomer that came about when the two words were mixed up.
