Antigua, the Heart of the Caribbean
Antigua, located in the Leewards Islands in the heart of the Caribbean, is often referred to as the beach with an island in the middle due to the island’s boast that it has 365 beaches – one for each day of the year - perfect for a Caribbean holiday. Without making a count it is impossible to confirm that there are 365 beaches on the beautiful island with a total land area of just 108 square miles, but there is no doubt whatsoever that Antigua has a multitude of absolutely superb beaches around the island. There are so many terrific white sand beaches that naming the best comes down to personal choice, but for me I have to mention Darkwood Beach, Dickinson Bay, Half Moon Bay, Galley Bay, Rendezvous Bay, and the beach at Great Bird Island as being my favourites.
Dickinson Bay, one of the main destinations for visitors to Antigua spending a Caribbean holiday, are catered for by several superb hotels including Antigua Village, a beachfront complex of studios, apartments, and villas, Halcyon Cove by Rex Resorts, a super hotel with 210 rooms on the beach with fabulous facilities, Siboney Beach Resort, a exclusive complex with an award winning restaurant and 12 suites, and Sandals Grande Antigua Resort & Spa, a world renowned all-inclusive hotel with the title of “World’s Most Romantic Resort”. Galley Bay Resort is an exclusive hideaway with Polynesian style cottages set in 40 acres of tropical gardens – Galley Bay was owned years ago by Edie Albrecht, an ex Ziegfield Follies girl, unforgettable, and a legend in the Caribbean. Antigua is the perfect island for a memorable Caribbean holiday.
