Lying 60 miles east of Puerto Rico, the British Virgin Islands offer a choice of over 60 islands, cays, and rocks, with Tortola being the largest with breathtaking views over the Caribbean. Virgin Gorda (the Fat Virgin) is incredibly beautiful, and here you can swim and snorkel at the famous Baths, a unique formation of huge boulders and rocks creating caves and rock pools. Other islands include Peter Island, Guana Island, Cooper Island, Marina Cay, Jost Van Dyke, the beautiful coral island of Anegada with the highest point being only 28 feet above sea level, Norman Island, the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson's classic adventure Treasure Island , and the world famous Necker Island owned by Richard Branson.
The BVI's are the ideal location for all water sports enthusiasts, who can snorkel, scuba dive, windsurf, boardsail, waterski, sail sunfish, laser, hobie cats, and vanguards, or simply do nothing except enjoy the laidback atmosphere and magnificent white sand beaches of these unspoilt islands. There are many fascinating dive sites with the most famous being the wreck of the Rhone which sank in 1867 and was featured in the movie "The Deep", and there are opportunities to learn to dive with Blue Water Divers or to sail with the Offshore Sailing School.
There is a wide and varied choice of excellent restaurants offering both West Indian and international cuisine.
To see the BVI's to their best advantage, Fly BVI offer an air tour giving a bird's eye view of this incredible group of scenically beautiful islands.
