Nevis, the sister island to St Kitts, lies south over a 2 mile channel, with 36 square miles of beautiful beaches and rolling lush green hills rising to a tropical rain forest and a central peak.
Nevis is unspoilt, and the revival and conversion of the old plantation homes into inns have provided havens for the sophisticated and peace-seeking visitor. An 18 hole golf course is located at Four Seasons, and places of interest are the Horatio Nelson Museum, the Botanical Gardens, Saddle Hill Battery, a hilltop fortress used by Nelson as a lookout for the French and now offers panoramic views of the neighbouring islands of St Kitts, Antigua and Montserrat, and the ruins of Fort Charles which was the island's principal defence against the French and Spanish.
Charlestown, the capital, is a quiet town with the Cotton Ginnery Complex having been converted into the islands most popular shopping centre.
Divers, both beginners and experienced, can enjoy excellent locations, including the rare black coral reefs, stony grottos off the west coast, Grid Iron- a sponge covered shelf teeming with angelfish, and a number of wrecks including the famous River Taw Wreck.
The Caribe Breeze, a daily ferry, connects Nevis to St Kitts.
