Oualie Beach Resort is a very unique Caribbean experience. The property is owned by the Yearwood family of Nevis whose ancestors came to the Caribbean from the UK in 1650. The hotel is right on the beach and has just 32 rooms located in gingerbread Caribbean style cottages a mere 40 to 60 feet from the beach. All the rooms face the beach with breath taking views of sunset and the neighbouring island of St. Kitts just 2 miles across the water. The legendary Green Flash is a common sight as the last edge of the sun dips beneath the horizon.
Oualie Bay is a calm, shallow, sheltered cove. Children and the less efficient swimmers feel safe and at ease in the water. While many of the guests at Oualie enjoy doing nothing more than stretching out on the beach with a cool drink, a good book, and the cool breezes, there are also a lot of other activities to partake in. One of the reasons guests return over and over again is because Oualie offers so much to do without having to go anywhere. Oualie Beach is your perfect choice for an Island vacation where you can relax in a stress free, casual and informal setting.
The rooms are spaciously scattered along the beach in single and two storey Gingerbread Cottages that reflect the traditional Caribbean style architecture of the Island. All rooms have large, cool screened verandas offering uninterrupted views of the beach and neighbouring island of St Kitts. The three room classifications are Deluxe, Studio and Premier:- Deluxe: Situated 40-60 feet from the beach, the Deluxe rooms are fully equipped with all the amenities you can expect from a four star hotel. These include air-conditioning, fridge/mini bar, iron and board, hairdryer, shower, alarm clock/radio, cable TV, coffee maker and electronic safe. These rooms offer a choice of either one queen sized mahogany four poster bed or two double beds.
Studio: There are only three of these rooms at Oualie. They are equipped similarly to the Deluxe rooms with the exception that they have full kitchen facilities and all have one mahogany queen sized four-poster bed. The studios all have doors that can connect to adjacent Deluxe rooms to form suites that are ideal for families. Premier: These spacious rooms are larger than the Deluxe rooms and are luxuriously appointed with all mahogany furniture including a king-sized four-poster bed. The rooms have the same amenities as available in the Deluxe rooms but also have a VCR. The huge bathrooms have a "his and her's " double sink granite vanity and shower.
On site are most of the activities that one would normally associate with a much larger resort. These include snorkelling, spa treatments, scuba diving, windsurfing, mountain bikes, ocean kayaks, sailing, game fishing, car rentals, kayaks, and guest email access. The hotel staff can arrange for nearby rainforest hikes, golf, tennis and horseback riding.Hobie cats and sunfish dinghy sailing is available at Oualie Beach Resort, and a 40 foot Catamarran "Caona" is also based at Oualie for fast sails accross to perfect snorkelling spots in the lee of St. Kitts.
The restaurant is purposely casual, so relax, you do not have to dress up fancy just to have dinner! Chef Jason serves excellent and affordable West Indian and Continental cuisine with the catch of the day usually landed right at the Oualie dock, thanks to the game fishing boats based here.Saturday evening is Caribbean night, with a Nevisian string band. Tuesday night is the "Oualie Beach Boys band," an eclectic group of acoustic guitars and homemade instruments that actually sound superb. Guests are actively encouraged to join the band unless totally incapable of rhythm!
The hotel can arrange car rentals, historic and island tours, as well as shopping trips to neighbouring islands and day sailing adventures on yachts and catamarans. Baby-sitting services can also be arranged.
The Oualie Spa, located at the Resort, offers a relaxing selection of facials, massages and body treatments utilizing natural products of the Island. The Spa also offers the ancient Tibetan healing technique of REIKE.
