Caribbean Villas yacht charter

For our last Caribbean holiday together, I chartered a yacht and my sons and I sailed into Antigua on a 39 ft sloop, “Arola”, which we chartered “barefoot” out of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, and enjoyed a memorable sail over-nighting on route in Virgin Gorda, Anguilla, St Maarten, Saba, St Eustacius, St Kitts, Nevis, and Montserrat. It was a fantastic trip apart from running aground at around 2 a.m. on Cades Reef off Antigua’s Caribbean Coast. We could see the lights of the Curtain Bluff Hotel and Old Road, and fortunately we refloated after about an hour, and set sail for English Harbour and Nelson’s Dockyard. We sailed into Nelson’s Dockyard under the guns of Fort Berkley just as the sun was rising – “shades of Nelson and the buccaneers” – it was an unforgettable experience. Running aground did not deter us from chartering again;  in fact it was just another fabulous unique Caribbean experience. After a few days in Nelson’s Dockyard, we sailed north round the Caribbean Coast (this time not running aground on Cades Reef) and dropped anchor at Dickinson Bay, just off the Warri Pier. We spent another six days enjoying the island, just a few of it’s 365 fabulous beaches including Darkwood, Half Moon Bay, Rendezvous Bay, and Five Islands, and visiting the sights of Antigua, including Shirley Heights, Fig Tree Drive, English Harbour, and Clarence House (where Princess Margaret spent her honeymoon). All in all we had a fantastic time and were fortunate to be able visit so many islands from the British Virgin Islands and down the Leeward Islands.
