Beautiful Barbuda
Barbuda is part of a three-island state with Antigua and Redonda in the north-eastern Caribbean. In Barbuda you will see an island that is unspoilt by tourism and offers the perfect Caribbean holiday island. It is renowned for its beaches which are natural, sprinkled with pink sand, and miles long. Barbuda has the deep blue Atlantic on one side with wild beaches full of driftwood and shells and the calm Caribbean Sea on the other, perfect for swimming and snorkelling, with plenty of opportunities to see turtles and many varieties of tropical fish undisturbed in the turquoise water.
The beauty of Barbuda is in its natural, peaceful way of life. It is not for visitors who are looking for sophisticated nightlife, it is a place where you relax, slow down and make your own entertainment. Most of the beaches have no facilities so it is important to remember to take water and shade or find a place to keep out of the sun for some of the time.
Barbuda is known to only a few intrepid sailors who like to keep the secret to themselves. The island has almost 200 wrecks around the coast, which are enough to put off casual yachting people, and is so flat that it is very difficult to see until you are dangerously close to the reefs. For snorkelers and scuba diving enthusiasts, Barbuda provides the opportunity for a unique Caribbean holiday.
Frigate Birds cannot walk or swim, having very short legs and small feet. They spend their time in the air or perched on a limb. With an eight-foot wingspread and only three-pound body weight, the Frigates have a wingspan-to-weight ratio that allows them to soar effortlessly on ocean breezes for days at a time. And on the North West corner of the island in a salty lagoon you will find an enormous rookery inhabited by the Frigate Birds.
