With in excess of 365 islands and cays spread over 120 miles, from the air, the Exumas, the most exotic of the Out Islands, look like a jewelled necklace fronting onto an emerald backdrop. This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful group of islands in the Bahamas. The contrast between the numerous white sand beaches and the turquoise off-shore waters is striking to say the least. Flying down the Exuma Cays, looking down on the tiny jewel-like islands and every shade of blue on blue on blue possible where the crystal-clear tropical Atlantic pours over the deep cuts between the cays and the constantly shifting sandbars has been named one of the top ten things you absolutely must do in the Caribbean.
The main attractions for visitors to The Exuma Islands are its world-class sports fishing and boating. The miles of picturesque islands, cays and hidden coves make for some of the most spectacular sailing in The Islands Of The Bahamas, both for recreational sloops and competitive yachting alike.
Two James Bond movies have been made to date in the Exumas - Thunderball and Never Say Never Again. Many of the Exuma Cays are private, some operated as luxuriously exclusive private island resorts and others the ultra-exclusive homes of such stars as Johnny Depp and country singers Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.
There are daily flights from Nassau and South Florida, and there is a once weekly mailboat service between the Exumas and Nassau.
