Andros

Andros, the largest and least explored island in the Bahamas, boasts of more diving and snorkelling spots than anywhere else in the Bahamas. With fantastic bonefishing and an abundance of diverse marine life, flora and fauna, Andros is truly an island of discovery.

Andros boasts the second-largest reef in the Northern Hemisphere and is home to the oldest dive resort on the planet. Whether diving or snorkelling, the average year-round 80°F temperature of the crystal clear, blue waters makes discovering the abundant marine wildlife surrounding Andros Island a magical experience, and makes Andros idyllic for just about every water sport imaginable. Divers will be astounded at the clarity of the water and the quality of the dive sites. Snorkellers can enjoy easily accessible, shallow-water coral gardens.

Fly fishermen set off in small boats with experienced local guides who somehow know their way through the criss-crossed confusion of cuts and channels that split Andros Island into three sections, and find the flats filled with silvery bonefish. For ocean big game fishermen, the Tongue beckons, with big snapper along the deep reef and pelagics like mahi-mahi, tuna, wahoo and marlin out in the blue just a bit further out.

Bird watchers who flock to Andros as birds find the island an ideal stopover on their yearly migrations, when they join such local exotics as ibis, spoonbills, flamingos, hummingbirds, woodstars and the rare Bahama parrot.

Andros has four airports and there are daily flights taking some 15 minutes from Nassau, 30 miles away. There are also flights between Andros and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a distance of 175 miles with a flying time of approximately one hour. Inter-island ferries also operate with a service to Nassau with a duration of two and a half hours.
